The adventure begins

Well, we made it!

Highlights of the journey so far:

• Wondering why Kev was looking so shifty at the airport and why he wouldn't let me go through security..then seeing Katy sitting Cafe Rouge to see us off (I was totally speechless).

• Being given lovely menu cards on the plane. Kev doesn't get why this pleased me so much.

• Arriving in Sri Lanka and all the feelings nostalgia as I insisted on catching 3 local buses to get us down to the coast rather than paying too much for a taxi.

• Waking up up this morning in a lovely clean room (except for the one, perfectly friendly cockroach) and hearing the waves lapping against the beach.

• Going for a swim in a beautifully warm blue sea, under perfectly blue skies and thinking about how I don't have to do any planning for a whole year!

More once we've actually done something. For now, there's a week of relaxation, sea and sunshine to enjoy!

4 sleeps to go!

Suddenly everything seems to be approaching very quickly. The long list of things to do had shrunk to the point where I was feeling great about how ready we are. The bathroom floor is fixed. We have a bank account. Trousers have been taken up. I finally (sort of) understand tax. Then Kev wrote a new list. So, job number one on my list - set up this blog. At least that's one thing I can cross off!

I plan to update this fairly regularly whilst we're away - as someone pointed out, at least then you can read about what we're up to when you feel like it rather than having long emails forced on you when you least expect it. Kev will also be adding a selection of photos, though that doesn't mean we won't bore you all to tears with endless albums when we get back...

So, time to go and cross some more things. Or have some coffee.
